Education

Seaton Delaval and Holywell have in total 5 schools ranging from nursery to high school. There is Seaton Terrace Nursery, Seaton Delaval First School, Holywell First School, Whytrig Middle School and Astley High school, which is also used for sixth form and adult education.

Seaton Terrace Nursery

The school serves the Seaton Delavel area to the north of Whitley Bay. Most of the children are from the local area. It is a mixed area economically, with a few children from disadvantaged backgrounds. No children have Statements of Special Educational Need but there are a number whose additional needs are being supported and investigated. All of the children have English as their first language. Attainment on entry to the Nursery is broadly as expected nationally though with wide variation; some children have poor language skills. The school has significantly extended its community facilities since the last Ofsted inspection.

Seaton Delaval Community First School

The school has an excellent reputation, enjoying support from the parents and the wider community. The recent Ofsted report (March 2006) states:- “This is a good school, and this judgement agrees with the school’s own view of its overall effectiveness. Pupils develop well as individuals and achieve well.”. “Teachers have high expectations of pupils and so classrooms are positive places to be. Pupils enjoy their work, sustain concentration and behave well; they are well cared for and know they are valued by all adults” The full report is available on the Ofsted website, or please ask for a copy from the school office. The school is continually developing the curriculum through a whole school approach, ensuring continuity and progression and further raising standards. The interests and education of the individual child is of prime importance to us.

Holywell Village First School

We are a relatively small school and along with ensuring that our children are developing the skills to meet the demands of the 21st century we still maintain the aspects of a village school that give the children a sense of community and belonging. All staff work together to ensure that each child feels safe, secure, happy and valued as individuals and we see the key to our success being the partnership that is developed between home and school. For children to reach their potential we believe it is crucial that all those involved with young children are committed to working together so that the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs are developed to the full. Should you wish to find out more about our school please contact us and we will be more than happy to meet with you and show you around.

Whytrig County Middle School

Whytrig Middle School is a caring and hardworking School with around 280 pupils on roll. We are situated in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. "Whytrig has strengths in the personal development, care, and support it provides. " Ofsted Inspection 2007.

Astley Community High School

We are a mixed 13-18 comprehensive school maintained by Northumberland Local Authority. We are proud of being a community school at the heart of the local community. Whilst promoting a collective ethos of fulfilment, individual value and enjoyment, we acknowledge that our young people are individuals who possess differing strengths but who have a common entitlement. Our purpose is to provide a learning environment in which we facilitate the best possible variety of opportunities and challenges to enable all to achieve their potential. We are also committed to preparing our pupils as well-rounded young people for citizenship and for the world beyond school. We are rightly proud of our school and look forward to meeting you.
