The Hastings Initiative

The Hastings Initiative is a local youth club and registered charity (No1082766) established in 1997 working with children and young people between the ages of 6 – 13 to deliver structured activities in the Seaton Valley area. The club runs from Astley High School and Seaton Sluice Scout Hut.

Our aim is to offer alternative ways of using youth leisure time by delivering diversionary activities to provide positive, stimulating, informative and enjoyable out of school sessions.   We want to contribute to the long-term benefit of the children and young people of Seaton Valley by increasing their confidence, sociability and building of positive relationships.

All our activities are delivered by qualified youth workers.  Our activities include dance and drama sessions, sport, outings, summer activities and advice and support.

Nippers and Kids club activities on offer are:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Cookery
  • Indoor and Outdoor games
  • Sports
  • Swimming
  • Healthy eating programme
  • Feel good hair/body/skin sessions
  • Counselling /mentoring (if requested)
  • Buddies scheme

A lifeguard is permanently on duty at the Astley clubs for those who wish to swim.

All workers and volunteers are rigorously vetted and trained to the highest standard.  There is always one senior female youth worker and one senior youth male on duty at any time except at the dance studio where workers are always female.

The Hastings Initiative operates a strict child protection and anti-bullying policy.  If you as a parent have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, either in person or by telephone.
