Friends of Holywell Dene

The Friends were set up in July 1999.  It is a voluntary environmental organisation whose members stronly believe that the woodland should be represented, protected and improved so that future generations can enjoy its natural beauty.

This year the Friends of Holywell Dene will be holding a Fun Day on Saturday the 2nd of September from 12.00 until 16.00.  The event will be in the form of a woodland trail and scavenger hunt.  There will be a choice of trails one of a 1½ mile and another of 2 miles in duration.  Children and their parents will be encouraged to have their faces painted and then go off and collect leaves, sticks, berries and debris from the woodland floor to create sculptures. An artist will help participants in the creation of the sculptures and we will be offering a prize for the best sculpture.  All the completed trail sheets from the shorter and extended routes will be placed in a draw and winners will recieve a prize.

The starting and finishing points will be at St Pauls church, homemade refreshments will be available in the hall and a photograph display of the Dene by Oliver Taylor will be shown in the church hall.  Tents erected on the green near by will contain the face painters, trail sheets, information about the Dene and the aims of the Friends.

All are welcome on the day young and old so please come along and enjoy the fun and support us.  For more information contact Bill Thomson of Friends of Holywell Dene on 0191 237 3404.
